THE PLAY

The Trial of Dr. Faustus is the Sixties seen through the eyes of the Faust legend. The Sixties, like today, were a time of protest and a time when it was believed that everybody mattered. Two social security recipients having little money for entertainment go to the court to watch the trial of the erudite Faust, who with the Devil used all their power to destroy a young woman. This somewhat presaging, “Me too” yet at the end, despite all the evil in the world, including a visit from Hitler, I, as the author, could not bring the world to an end. Thankfully, neither could God.

Very Truly Yours,

Marlowe – – let me see. Hmmm. Blasphemy. No, that can’t be it. Atheism. No, we’ve admitted atheists. Oh! Wasting your God-given talent. Marlowe, That is an unforgivable sin.
